Date:
11/17/2017 - 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Location:
Cooperative Gallery 213 State St Binghamton

This First Friday the Cooperative Gallery 213 will open an exhibit by Joanne Thorne Arnold titled “Shelter” and Jean Luongo’s “Current Work.” The exhibit, which will run through Nov. 25th.  Both are accomplished artists specializing in painting; Arnold is known for her colorful abstracts and Luongo for her portraits. A  Reception, open to the public, will be held at the gallery on First Friday and the gallery is regularly open 3-6 pm Fridays and Saturdays 12-4 pm, as well as 3-9 pm for First Friday’s Art Walk.

Oil painter Joanne Thorne Arnold explores the layering of colors and the energy of line.  Thorne Arnold explains her work, “With every mark I attempt to translate nature into an abstract and distinctive vocabulary. I experience a sense of renewal that contains the noise of the chaotic and the silence of calm.”

“Nature aside, to have shelter is a basic human need. It’s a place to protect, a place to feel safe.  It can be home, the studio or under a canopy of trees.   The iconic house shape symbolizes warmth from the cold and light from the darkness.”

The Cooperative Gallery, a popular stop on the First Friday Art Walk, located at Artists Row --State of the Art, at 213 State Street in Binghamton, is open on First Friday 3- 9 pm and regularly Fridays from 3-6 and Saturdays from 12- 4 pm.  A free weekly e-newsletter is available by signing up at  www.cooperativegallery.com or on Facebook  at Cooperative Gallery 213.
