The Cooperative Gallery 213 announces a photographic exhibit by two of the area’s well-known photographers, Geof Gould and Bill Gorman. Images of Yellowstone by Geof Gould displays the vast beauty and splendor of this first National Park while Bill Gorman’s Conventional Beauty has a narrow focus on the beauty of single flowers and regional landscapes. An Opening Reception will be held on Thursday May 4th from 6-9 followed by a First Friday Reception on May 5th from 6-9. The exhibit will run until May 27.
Geof Gould, a well-respected regional photographer and gallery member, visited Yellowstone Park for a week this past year. This exhibit shares some of his views of the park’s wonders: from the iconic Old Faithful geyser to the dazzling Grand Prismatic Spring. Created in 1872, the park, vast and beautiful, is spread out over two million acres located in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. One of the photographs in this exhibit is of the Roosevelt Arch inscribed with Teddy Roosevelt’s declaration that this national park is “For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People.” This exhibit is Geof’s homage to Roosevelt and others for safeguarding this national treasure.
BIll Gorman, a long time member of the gallery, has, in past exhibits, often tried to create photographs that show beauty and create interest in subject matter that is not seen as conventionally beautiful. In this exhibit, however, he has created 20 x 30 photographs printed on canvas of different aspects of the soft, subtle colors of a lotus flower in full bloom, the bright orange-red veils of color in a poppy flower also in full bloom, and a number of scenic landscapes including the Shenandoah mountains in the fall and Otsego Lake in the summer, all photographs of subject matter that photographers and non-photographers alike probably see as conventionally beautiful.
The Cooperative Gallery 213 is located in downtown Binghamton in the block known as State of the Art at 213 State Street. Gallery hours : Friday 3-6 PM & Sat. 12-4 PM For more information about the exhibit or gallery go to www.cooperativegallery.com
