Celebrate the beginning of the growing season and the power of working people with a full weekend of books, art, presentations, fun activities, and communing with others at the First Annual Upstate Anarchist Book Fair and Warehouse Sale being held on May 4th and 5th (noon-6pm) sponsored by anti-profit bookstore Riot Act Books and radical publisher PM Press. It’s all happening in the PM Press Warehouse parking lot at 21 Emma Street in Binghamton, NY, in the historic First Ward.

This year will bring over 40 vendors from around the region to show off their wares, talk about books, hand out zines, and share the weekend. Attendees should expect a welcoming, eclectic street fair with a radical bent, plant/seed giveaways and DIY activities. PM Press, radical publisher and book fair co-host, will have a 4,000 square foot area inside the warehouse filled with a huge selection of cheaply priced, new, used, and left over books from major publishers, akin to the Penguin Putnam book sale of years passed. During the fair and warehouse sale over a dozen speakers will discuss labor and union organizing, the Kurdish movement, the local history of innovative dance group the American Dance Asylum and much more. Acclaimed, best-selling novelist Jonathan Lethem will be keynote speaker (Saturday, 4:30), to be followed immediately by collective May-Pole dance. DIY workshop/skill shares, suitable for people of all ages and abilities, will take place throughout the weekend, including seed starting, bee keeping, natural plant dying, screen printing, yoga, and a solar-punk writing workshop! Hot beverages will be available for purchase from Mycelia Herbal and Black Bird Cafe and Infoshop and Riot Act volunteers will be providing vegan rice and grillables. Check out the schedule of events and all the vendors on the book fair website, @riotactbooks, @pmpress, Facebook Event, and the fliers HERE

May Day is for Everyone! May Day is for Everyone! May Day is for Everyone!

All Are Welcome!

International Workers Day is annually celebrated on May 1st to recognize the power of working people and commemorate the contributions of labor struggles to the betterment of our lives. In the late 19th century, labor organizers chose May Day as a day of action in the fight for an 8 hour work day. Anarchist book fairs in so-called North America, from San Francisco to Montreal and Mexico City to Asheville, NC, and around the world are beloved annual events. PM Press and Riot Act Books hope this event will be similarly enjoyed by our region for many years to come.
