“Cries and Whispers” at Cooperative Gallery
October 4, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Jean Luongo, with special guest artist Anthony Santuoso, present a two person show, “Cries and Whispers” October 4- 26th 2019 at the Cooperative Gallery 213 State St. Binghamton. This exhibit features older and newer pieces never before shown in Binghamton and can be seen as an overview of the career of each artist and explains how work changes over time.
Santuoso and Luongo have a very different approaches to their work. For instance, how they depict the narrative of each painting: Santuoso’s work could be called “allegorical” while Luongo’s work is more about psychological portraiture. Both are accomplished artists with many exhibits and publications to their credit. Santuoso has also taught at several universities.
Santuoso explains, “As an artist I’m interested in meaning, content and expression; as a painter I work with image, line, shape, form, value, color and surface. I work towards a marriage of these elements, finding plastic equivalents for particular expressions.”
Luongo comments, “The title, ‘Cries and Whispers’ comes from the 1972 film by Ingmar Bergman, which had a profound impact on me as an adolescent and it seemed a fitting title for this collection of paintings.”
