Group Show for the Art Trail at Cooperative DATE CHANGE
October 2, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Six gallery members will form a group show for the Broome County Arts Council’s Art Trail the Oct 17-18, weekend 10 am to 4 pm and will continue Saturdays through the 24th from 11 am- 3 pm. The show will open on First Friday, changed to Oct 16th 6-9 pm. The artists will present painting, collage, sculpting, photography, printmaking, quilting, and mixed media.
The six artists and statements about their work follow. Some artists will offer live demonstrations of their skills during the Art Trail.
Kit Ashman: “During the pandemic using myself as a subject has been fun and interesting to see myself as “her” in the mirror. I’ve been experimenting with different mediums and different ways of using mediums. Most recently I have enjoyed painting with cold wax and making collages.”
Chuck Haupt: “Water is my theme for the Art Trail group show. Water is what sustains us, it’s a part of our lives in so many ways. The drip, the rain, the flow, the waves–what else do we get to experience, explore, enjoy over and over again?”
Betsy Jo Williams: “I like to work with different materials creating sculptures, drawings and prints. I often make sculptural installations using natural materials, such as sticks, grasses and clay. Although I work in several mediums, all my work has a similar feel. I am not interested in doing “pretty” pieces. I am interested in doing work that makes people react. I want my images to be bold and make the viewer stop and think. People may like my work or hate it. My only hope is that they do not find it boring.” Betsy Jo will be doing a demonstration of block printing and sculpture.
Linda Ciallelo: “I will be showing my still lifes and figurative paintings and drawings. I will also be working on a figurative drawing at the gallery on the Art Trail.”
MaryRose: “My project for the Art Trail group show is the creation of a Quilt based on the Challenge Circle of 100 images produced by 10 of the gallery artists over 10 weeks. Each artist submitted an image and in turn, were inspired to create another original piece.”
Judy Salton: “I will be working on an animal-themed headboard for my grandchild’s bed during the Art Trail hours by sculpting and painting.”
The Cooperative Gallery is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020, although the COVID pandemic interfered with its schedule. The gallery re-opened in August, among the first local galleries to comply with NYS guidelines. Gallery hours are reduced to Saturdays 11 am-3 pm and First Fridays and by private appointment with the artists. Contact cooperativegallery213@gmail.com or individual artists.
