Popular event to be offered free of charge this year
The 2019 Pride and Joy Family Fun Day will be held on Saturday, March 9, 9 am-5:30 pm at the DoubleTree Hotel, 225 Water Street, Binghamton, NY. Local families and early arrivals are invited to gather the night before for a pool party at the hotel on Friday, March 8 at 7 pm.
“Pride and Joy Families gatherings are a wonderful opportunity for LGBTQ adults and kids and their family members to experience a sense of community, celebrate together, and find the support and resources they need,” said Claudia Stallman, project director for the Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project. The public is invited to support the event by sharing this information, advertising in the event Program Book, and by attending.
Adult workshops will be held on healing trauma in our children and families, navigating schools as an LGBTQ family, self-care, raising transgender/gender non-conforming kids, and talking to teens about sex and relationships. Ample time and space will be provided for adults to relax, meet and share. Childcare and Camp Highlight programs will be provided for children three years and older. A Resource Fair will also be provided.
Pride and Joy’s Family Fun Day is intended to meet the needs of families with one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/GNC, or queer members. Families with and without children are welcome. Allies and single LGBTQ adults are welcome. Extended family members are also welcome – grandparents, aunts, and uncles will all have a wonderful time!
