My Lai Memorial Exhibit

November 7, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Fifty years ago, the world was shocked by photos released by US Army Infantryman, Ron Haeberle. Ron was the photographer for Charlie Company of the 20th Infantry Brigade that attacked an unarmed Vietnamese village called My Lai (pronounced Me-lie). Women were raped, women, men, children and infants killed and the awful photographic record was kept in Ron Haeberle’s photo pouch until his conscience could take it no longer.

In 1969, Haeberle released the massacre photos to the media. Americans began to absorb what this war was doing not just to the Vietnamese people but to our own American ‘boys’.
Few people under age 60 know of or remember My Lai. Veterans for Peace of Broome County and Peace Action of Broome County believe the story needs to be retold and remembered.

Broome County Public Library will have a My Lai Memorial Exhibit during all library hours from November 7th thru 9th. A reception for the opening of the My Lai Exhibit will be at the library starting at 4PM on Thursday, November 7th…light refreshment, remarks by Chicago Veterans for Peace artist and Exhibit creator, Mac McDevitt, and music by local folks artist, Andru Bemis will be featured.

Hours are: . Thursday 11/7 from 10 am to 8PM & Friday 11/8 -10am to 5PM, Saturday 11/9 -10am to 2pm

Admission is free. Come help us remember our past and build on our future.
