Truth Pharm to host Trail of Truth for International Overdose Awareness Day
(Binghamton, NY) In observance of International Overdose Awareness Day, Truth Pharm is hosting our 5th annual Trail of Truth Memorial March on Saturday, August 22, 2020. As the COVID pandemic collides with the overdose epidemic, overdoses are once again on the rise, and the people suffering from Substance Use Disorder have been greatly impacted in negative ways. Unfortunately, this is a reminder, that our work is still not done.
Due to COVID, we were not sure if we would move forward with this year’s event, but we believe skipping a year would be a mistake for our families and our cause. Outdoor events have a lower risk of COVID spread, and we will follow all safety precautions and guidelines provided by the CDC for safely gathering. All attendees are required to wear masks. Chairs will be spaced out according to social distancing standards. We have extra masks on hand for anyone that needs one, and numerous gallon sized hand sanitizer pumps will be placed throughout the area and we will be providing personal bottles of hand sanitizer to attendees.
Please join us on our Trail of Truth Memorial March as we memorialize 148 loved ones who have lost their lives due to substance use related causes. There will be gifts for family members who have lost a loved one to substance use related causes. We will also be giving a gift to overdose survivors.
We will meet at The Martin Luther King Jr. Peacemaker’s Stage (7 Court Street Binghamton, NY) and conclude in front of the Government Plaza on Hawley Street.
This is the timeline for the event:
2:00pm Family memorial cemetery which illustrates the impact of the epidemic by showcasing loved ones we have lost.
2:00pm, 2:30pm, 3:00pm and 3:30pm – Free Overdose Reversal Training with Narcan kits available.
2:00-4:00pm Truth Pharm will be tabling with information about our services and will sell t-shirts
3:35pm Press Interviews
4:00pm Announcements, speakers and musical performers
5:00pm Memorial march to the Governmental Plaza
5:45pm Live Performance art by families who have lost loved ones in front of the Governmental Plaza on Hawley Street accompanied by drummers
As a community nonprofit, Truth Pharm believes in planting the seeds of love and understanding to fight this overdose epidemic. This is accomplished by eliminating stigma around recovery and substance use; serving our community with free overdose reversal trainings; and an outreach of support from our Rainmakers and Board Members.
