We just wrapped up our Summer Youth Employment Program and have plans to hire a youth assistant during the Fall and Spring. We have begun to erect a smaller hoophouse for storing our transplants and the larger greenhouse will be converted into a more intensive, extended season growing space.
Varick, the portion of land behind Tudor St that we lease from the City of Binghamton, has begun development. Our 2012 summer youth crew built sheet mulched beds and bio-intensive beds that will provide more growing space in the spring.
Our farm stand is growing as well! Every Wednesday from 4-6pm we sell freshly harvested vegetables and get to meet more and more of our neighbors. Some of the produce
we have ready now are tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini, swiss chard, kale, yellow watermelon, herbs, beans, carrots, beets, hot peppers and more! Come visit us and check out the urban farm! We are still located at 16 Tudor st! We have also been setting up a produce stand at the BHA Northshore Towers for Seniors in that building. We have been so welcomed by the residents who
are excited to easily get fresh produce!
We recently begun to sell fresh produce to Old Barn Hollow Local Food and Artisan Market
cheese, milk, soap/cleaning products, bread, sweet treats and more! All sourced within a 50 mile radius of Binghamton!
Most of you know us best at our Saturday market at Otsiningo Park. We are still selling vegetables there and are excited to announce that we will be finishing out the 2012 season at Otsiningo Park but will not be vending there in 2013. To some that may not be exciting news but we are now able to focus our efforts in downtown Binghamton which has been the goal of BUF
from the start. We have been so lucky to be part of the Otsiningo Farmers Market and thank everyone for supporting us as we began this venture. We learned so much in the three years at that market and without it we would not be where we are now.
I hope you come visit us at the urban farm on 16 Tudor st in Downtown Binghamton!
