Local author to premiere full and unique audiobook on WBDY radio
Mixing a traditional audiobook with the ambience and effects of a radio dramatization, Awake: A Vampire Tale is a coming-of-age story by AmarA*jk
Binghamton, NY – August 25, 2019 – Locally based artist and theatrical designer AmarA*jk is bringing a new experience to the air-waves of Binghamton. The audiobook of her dark urban novel, Awake: A Vampire Tale, will be broadcast as a serial beginning on September 7th on WBDY-LP 99.5 FM, coinciding with the release of the large-print, illustrated paperback edition and the complete audiobook through the Bundy Museum Shop and other online retailers.
The tale begins when the heroine, Titian, awakens alone in a completely empty apartment, thirsty and confused. She discovers that she is a vampire and she has no memory of the night before, how she got here, or how she became a vampire. All she has are flashes of the night before, disconnected and without context, and the terrible, driving Thirst. Her old life is over and – sad as she is to leave her family and expectations behind – there is a glorious freedom in throwing off the constraints of the formulaic life at the turn of the twenty-first century in America. She is young and she is powerful, and all of the Seattle night lies open to her. Through her first three nights, she will struggle to sate and control the Thirst, piece together her lost night, discover the interwoven history of hundreds of years that led to her awakening, and discover friendships like none she has ever known.
When the novel was first released in 2015, it was well received by local and worldwide readers alike, selling hundreds of copies in print and e-book and garnering excellent reviews.
“…. this novel read how I wish an Anne Rice novel would read.” – Shh, I’m Reading
The upcoming 4th print edition includes the first several chapters of the next book in the series, Awakenings: Another Vampire Tale, which is currently being written.
The audiobook is a novel blend of traditional audiobook and radio drama; it includes ambient noise and sound effects underscoring the narration and dialogue of the story. The author voices Titian’s narration and the female voices, and her husband and collaborator, *jk, voices the narrator and male characters. They have produced the audiobook using freeware software and with the support of the patrons on the freelance artist site Patreon.
Broadcast of the audiobook on WBDY-LP 99.5 FM begins on Saturday, September 7. The serial audiobook will broadcast Saturdays and Sundays at 10pm throughout the autumn . The book and audiobook will be available on Amazon.com and other audiobook streaming sites on the release date, September 7. Book and audiobook pre-sales are available now at the Bundy Museum of History and Art online shop at bundymuseum.org/shop-bundy. Audiobook pre-sales include downloadable sample.
The author advises purchasing through the museum. “It’s the same price, but when you buy through the museum, part of the money goes to The Bundy. They do so much in our community, so much for our community; this is a great way to get something for yourself and give back all at once.”
AmarA*jk will be signing books (and cards for audiobook purchasers) at the Bundy Museum at 129 Main St. Binghamton, NY on September 7 from 6 – 7:30pm.
