The El Charcon Sister City Project is asking for your help: We are facing a serious period of transition as our board membership has shrunk over the past several years. In order to remain a functioning organization, and to continue to do the important work of supporting our friends in El Charcón, we need new people to join the Board. Otherwise we will be faced with a very difficult situation. This is an opportunity for us to grow our Board and to invite new people in to help us in our work in supporting our friends in El Salvador. Will you consider joining us as a Board member of the Binghamton El Charcón Sister City Project?
A few things about being a Board member:
–The Board meets once per month for approximately one hour via Zoom. Meeting virtually began because of the ongoing pandemic, but allows us to extend the invitation to those living outside of the greater Binghamton area.
–Ea
ch month we review an agenda that typically includes a treasurer’s report, the latest status updates from the Junta Directiva in El Charcón, and other initiatives we might be preparing at the time, such as our annual fundraiser. Board members are able to add items to the agenda for discussion.
–This position is well-suited to anyone who is interested in supporting grassroots community organization in a developing country. BECSCP has a 28-year long relationship in solidarity with this community, and we have seen many positive changes over the years. The ability to speak Spanish, or intimate knowledge of El Salvador, are not required to join the Board.
–Depending on your interests, you can assist the Board in specific ways, whether that is serving as Treasurer or Secretary, for example, or helping to organize our annual fundraising events, promoting our social media posts, or helping write articles for our annual newsletter, or simply contributing to the decision-making process.
