Kendrot and Williams Open at Cooperative
June 28, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
June’s First Friday the Cooperative Gallery 213 will open “Brutal Dance: Boxing Series” an exhibit of drawing prints and paintings by Susan Kendrot, as well as “Idea, Sticks & Clay” sculptures by Betsy Jo Williams. They will host an Opening Reception, at the Cooperative Gallery 213 State St. Binghamton, NY. Friends and family and the public are welcome to attend.
Kendrot observes, “Humankind through the ages has been drawn to violence, brutality and dominance. As much as we would like to deny this, we participate in, are entertained by, put uniforms on, make games for, and glorify these traits.” She explains the theme of her show “Brutal Dance: Boxing Series,” “Boxing is but one example and it has been an ongoing theme in my work.” Kendrot is selling her sketches and color paintings for $50 to benefit the Gallery.
Williams explains the inspiration for her “Idea, Stick & Clay,” “I start with some every day thing, and then feel compelled to follow it. It’s in my subconscious. My imagination is stimulated. My instincts and intuition say “do it” even though I don’t know why.” In discussing her approach to materials she said, “I found some twigs. Attached was a cocoon, an egg sack for what insect, I do not know. Clay, sticks, wax and wire are the materials I use to create my mixed media sculptures. Inspired by a cocoon I am exploring the idea of metamorphoses.”
