May Day Events at Bundy
May 1, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 9:00 pm
When: Sunday May 1st from noon to 9pm (the book sale will wrap up around sundown)
Riot Act Books invites you and our entire community to the second annual May Day Celebration and Booksale!
Where: Bundy Museum of History and Art (parking is available at the Main Street Baptist Church on the corner of Cedar and Main–but please pay attention to parking signage and there is plenty of street parking)
International Workers Day is celebrated all over the world to commemorate the Haymarket Massacre that took place in Chicago in 1886 against striking workers. For centuries before communities have welcomed the return of the spring planting season and warmer weather around this day. We urge you all to join us in learning more about this historic day and the issues that affect working people in our community including: housing justice, environmental justice, food insecurity, prison abolition, and much much more.
What’s the celebration look like?
There is a full schedule of programming from noon to 9pm all of which is currently scheduled for outside, weather permitting (and it should be beautiful!). A panel on housing issues in Binghamton kicks things off, with musical performances throughout the rest of the day. Folks will also be offering short workshops and activities, like seed starting and wheatpasting. Riot Act Books will be selling new and used books (our in store inventory is accessible here) all day long. Expect many new titles and plenty of used titles, including classics.
To make the day more joyful we encourage people to dress festively, consider wearing masks, and bring a bag if you plan to buy some books. A bag you can decorate is even better!
This is a kid-friendly event, so bring the whole family and enjoy the start of Spring with your favorite local anti-profit anti-fascist volunteer-run book peddlers!
