Local bridge editor and progressive activist Peg Johnston has spent her working career in abortion care at Southern Tier Women’s Health Services which she founded in 1981. Her specialty has been counseling those experiencing abortions and their loved ones. Now, at the end of her career, this special exhibit by San Francisco photographer Roslyn Banish is being presented by Johnston, a founding member of the Cooperative Gallery 213 State in Binghamton. “It is kind of a capstone to my life in abortion care which has been my great honor to help people overcome the stigma heaped on people choosing to end a pregnancy for all kinds of reasons. What I have had the privilege of witnessing is people making good, moral decisions for their lives, sometimes against great odds. Johnston has created helpful patient resources such as the PregnancyOptionsWorkbooks and handouts such as Mom, Dad, I’m Pregnant or You are a Good Woman, and Healthy Coping after an Abortion , all available at Abortion Conversation Projects. For the current show Johnston’s colleagure Roslyn Banish collected stories from people all over the country and succeeded in finding a diverse group of people in different circumstances which underscores the complexity of a pregnancy decision. Focus on Abortion runs from First Friday April 7th 5-9 pm through Saturday April 29th 11 am-3 pm . Open Fridays 5-8 pm and Saturdays 11 am- 3 pm. and by appointment. Third Thursday Art Talk April 20th will be via Zoom and will feature Johnston and the creator of the travelling exhibit Roslyn Banish. zoom link:
