BINGHAMTON—Another man being held in the Broome County Jail was pronounced dead Wednesday morning, after reportedly being denied life-saving medical treatment by jail staff.
The deceased — a 40-year-old Binghamton resident — was arrested for a probation violation on October 16th, when a medical emergency caused him to miss a scheduled appointment with his probation officer. The individual had prior arrests for marijuana possession, as well as misdemeanor traffic infractions.
Although the Broome County Probation Department and Sheriff’s Office were aware of the man’s chronic illness and emergency hospitalization, he was still arrested for the violation and admitted to the jail without receiving follow-up treatment.
According to witnesses in the jail, his condition quickly worsened.
