Holiday Show at Cooperative: All Members’ Show

Cooperative Gallery 213, 213 State St. in Binghamton, presents its annual Holiday Show; Find unique, original, and affordable artworks from more than 50 artists and fine crafters, as the Cooperative Gallery is transformed into a magical showplace for wonderful works from all Gallery members.
 
Featured works include paintings by Mark Green, Suzanne Lachman, Angela Cook, Eileen Schlag, and others; sculpture and photography by Duke Holdsworth, painted furniture by Narani O’Shaughnessy, jewelry both whimsical and elegant by Vivian Nguyen, Ellen Romano, and others; painted silks by Andrea Eastman and intricate tie-dye by Kirk Madsen; woodworks by Richard Nolan, artisan holiday ornaments, miniature paintings, and myriad other visual delights by members of the local arts community.
 
Opening Artists Reception Gala is Thursday, November 30, 6-8:30 PM, with live music and delectable catered munchies, some from the new Cooperative Gallery 213 cookbook, “Artists in the Kitchen.”
 
The show and sale continues through December 23 — extended gallery hours for December: Fridays 3 – 7 PM, Saturdays 11 AM – 4 PM

Cranberry Coffehouse: Gillette and Mangsen

On Sat., May 21, from 7:30 to 10 p.m., the Cranberry Coffeehouse ends its 2015-16 season with the fabulous duo of Cindy Mangsen and Steve Gillette.

 A Gillette and Mangsen concert features compelling songs, rich harmony, and a good dose of humor. Steve and Cindy have performed on National Public Radio, across North America and Europe, delighting audiences with traditional music and original songs. Although they come from different musical backgrounds, “their voices and styles meld seamlessly with a gentleness and a maturity that is unmatched in the world of folk duos.”

Steve is a country/folk songwriter with Western roots. Some of his best known songs, Darcy Farrow, Bed of Roses, and Back on the Street Again, have been performed by artists Ian & Sylvia, John Denver, Garth Brooks, Linda Ronstadt, and Tammy Wynette.

Cindy is known for compelling interpretations of traditional Anglo-Scottish ballads, thoughtful songs, and a wonderful ear for harmony. She is a keeper of old songs as well as a writer and interpreter of new ones.

The duo has recorded six albums in their 25-year collaboration, as well as solo albums and projects with other artists (Priscilla Herdman, Anne Hills, Michael Smith).  To hear clips of their music, visit: http://compassrosemusic.com.

The Middle Set–The Cranberry Coffeehouse encourages all musicians, vocalists, story tellers, and dancers to share their talents in the middle set. Middle set performances are limited to 5 minutes. Bob Johnston Photo Competition Winners Announced

The Cooperative Gallery 213 and the Two Rivers Photography Club are sponsoring the 2nd Bob Johnston Photo Show and Competition January 4 – 26th, 2013. This Memorial Exhibit is a tribute to the art embodied in the photography of Bob Johnston, a founding member of the gallery who died in 2010. Thirty one photographers entered the Competition in either Color or Black and White categories. Photographs will be judged by Kirk and Leslie Van Zandbergen of Van Zandbergen Photography, guided by this sentiment from Bob Johnston’s artist’s statement: “For me, the successful photograph is one in which both the abstract elements and the subject matter of the image reinforce each other to provide an emotional experience for the viewer.”
The Best In Show prize goes to Greg Chianis for “Tuscan Storm.” Judges’ Choice Awards in Black and White go to Nancy Basmann for “Louis Mendes” and Sandra Kirker for “The Long Road Home;” The Judges’ Choice in the Color category go to Bill Gorman for “Cardinal” and to Scott Michael Anderson for “Reflection Outside of 213.” Honorable Mentions in Color will be awarded to Joe Trapper for “Wall Flower” and to Sandra Kirker for “Sky Blue and White” and for Black and White to Greg Chianis for “Reflections” and John Rehak for “York Train Station.” Prizes will be distributed at 7 pm at the First Friday Art Walk.
